1 in 88 or 1 in 54...Autism is a reality Not a Number

Recently the CDC released their new numbers. People are shocked, when I say people I'm guessing its all the NT parents, the couples who don't have kids yet.....

Me I'm not so shocked. Why you ask....because we live daily the 1 in 54. Those aren't very good odds if you ask me. I wasn't going to write a post about this but I want to show solidarity to my fellow parents. We are here for each other daily, monthly, even hourly.

So here is my 1 in 54

You've come a long way baby!

He's been my 1 in 54 everyday for six years and will continue to be that. BUT Autism isn't a number, its him right there. With his big smile enjoying life and hugging his momma. He's not a number to me he is my reality, his face right along with all the other 1 in 88 or the 1 in 54 should be more then numbers to you and to the CDC.

What does that number get him? What does it prove? It surely won't help him get better services, it surely won't surround him with more kids like him. What does that number get me? It got me phone calls and a timeline filled with "CDC reports new Autism numbers". It won't get me or my husband added support, it won't mean getting him services is less of a battle. If anything it means now I have to fight even harder, it means I have to support those other families who are struggling just like we are.

Cute As Can Be~ Lil Boo Books Review

We are a huge reading family, so when I was approached to review two books by Daddy Bookins I jumped at the chance.

Daddy Bookins has two books out, the first being Outside with Lil Boo and book two is At the Zoo with Lil Boo.

With his trusty elephant by his side Lil Boo sets out to see whats going on outside. The story is a catchy tale of all the things that Lil Boo meets and sees outside. From ants, to birds, bees and so much more. The illustrations in the book are cute and engaging.

At The Zoo with Lil Boo is the second book in the Lil Boo series. This time Lil Boo with his best friend Onote the Elephant is at the Zoo exploring after he finds a mysterious key. As they roam the zoo they encounter many animals and each one comes along for the journey. Tired and lost at the end of their travels they lay down for a nap, when Lil Boo wakes he finds himself in the car on the way home....was it all a dream?

Daddy Bookins is the founder of the Peas and Bananas blog, you should really go take a look and a read. I'm loving the blogs so far!!

I really enjoyed reading these books with my kids. They loved hearing what Lil Boo was going to get into next, and they could relate to all the things they see outside and at the zoo. So far we've been reading these two book daily. I would recommend adding these two books to your home library, so here is where you can buy your own copy.

The YuckMouths give this 5 thumbs up!

Felt Board App Review and Giveaway! ~~ By Software Smoothie

Hey everyone! Today I'm bring you all my very first giveaway!! I am very excited to be bringing you the app that has my kids glued to the ipad since I downloaded it!

So today I bring you Felt Board By Software Smoothie! They are a husband and wife team and they are pretty awesome!

So I was going to do some videos, but Racer wasn't game and CareBear couldn't stop talking into the video long enough to work with the app. lol kids

When I first opened up this app, it reminded me of  the old sticker clings sets that I used to play with when I was a kid. There are over 20+ backgrounds with over every scene possible. A variation of  felt people to use along with faces and hair. There are also faces with emotions which could be great for creating social stories for our kids! I was truly amazed at the in-depth customization you can get into with it. I played for hours myself! Then of course the kids wanted to know what mommy was doing and I haven't seen the ipad since!

CareBear likes creating boat loads of people all wearing pretty dresses (princess stage). Racers done some really cool scenes with his like this one!

There is a party on his farm and everyone is invited! He's had a lot of fun with this app! You can tell because after the party on the farm, they held an after party on the moon!

In that picture you can see there is a sidebar, each tab brings up different pieces to add to the picture. People, clothes, accessories, animals it goes on and on! If you don't like what you've added you can easily toss it into the trash can down at the bottom. There is also an easy picture taking button to save the scenes you have made!

The app is extremely easy to use, and fun as well! Look at how much Racer loved it

So here is the fun part! You can enter to win one of two promo codes I have! Entry is really easy using Rafflecopter! BUT if you don't want to wait to see if you win you can buy the code here. You can also find the developer team on Facebook and Twitter! So go....get to going and enter to win and stop by and say hello!! Tell them the YuckMouth Mommy sent you!

YuckMouth Daddy and the Kickstarter

Today I would be doing the Special Needs Ryan Gosling meme but you should totally go check it out. Today I'm bringing you something special from the YuckMouth daddy.

Here's his story:

Last year I started a Kickstarter project, and it wasn't a success. I'm trying again this year to kick off 2012 right with another children's book of Adventures of One Sock.

One Sock are true tales of my son's life and every day living with Autism. It's an Adventure living with my son and I started this children's book to show awareness to other parents with or with out a special needs member in their family. Everyone loved my first book of Adventures of One Sock "The Lion", and I wanted to share another Adventure with you called "My Dog Rodger".

I'm looking for help with donations to make this project happen. The money donated will go to the Artist who did a very awesome job in the first book, and to publishing cost so I can send this book to school Libraries and other venues so kids from all around the world can enjoy such a good children's book. Come be part of a great project and help support awareness!

See what happens when One Sock gets a new family member, a small scrunty dog name Rodger. One Sock doesn't like how Rodger chews everything even his favorite stuff animal, crocodile. Read how One Sock tries to figure out why puppies like too chew so much.

Here are the links to both the first book

This is the Kickstarter page

Adventures of One Sock is a good read for every child and parent who's still a child at heart.

Bloggers Rights...We Have them!

In light of everything going on, including being threatened legally. I had decided to do a little research of my own about bloggers rights. Did you know that we actually have rights as bloggers?! I certainly didn't and its quite useful to know. So I'm going to link some stuff to read and copy paste some stuff that seemed important to me and should be to you as well.

:To my readers lol sorry if this is boring to you, but please share.

  • Bloggers can be journalists (and journalists can be bloggers).
  • Bloggers are entitled to free speech
  • Bloggers have the right to political speech
  • Bloggers have the right to stay anonymous.
  • Bloggers have freedom from liability for hosting speech the same way other web hosts do.

Now there is more to that as far as what that all means and you can find that here https://www.eff.org/bloggers

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now here comes a personal issue for me and its the ins and outs of defamation. Its been thrown around a lot that myself and other bloggers were going to be sued for Defamation, Slander, and Libel. Now while this may sound shocking and scary its not. As a blogger I was extremely careful to only post the truth. Truth now as how I saw it but what I could show with undoctored screen shots and things I could legally find on Google. Do you realize that its quite easy to find a lot of information about someone, a business, or anything on Google? We live in a information age and the information is right at our fingertips. We just have to be willing to search it.
So here are the definitions for all three of the things I'm being sued for.
Defamation:  1. (noun) defamation
act of injuring another's reputation by any slanderous communication, written or oral; the wrong of maliciously injuring the good name of another; slander; detraction; calumny; aspersion   http://www.definitions.net/definition/defamation
Slander: 1. (noun) slander
a false tale or report maliciously uttered, tending to injure the reputation of another; the malicious utterance of defamatory reports; the dissemination of malicious tales or suggestions to the injury of another  http://www.definitions.net/definition/slander
Libel: 1. (noun) libel
brief writing of any kind, esp. a declaration, bill, certificate, request, supplication, etc http://www.definitions.net/definition/libel
Here also is the definitions for all three above but from this site https://www.eff.org/issues/bloggers/legal/liability/defamation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now to be fair I can't actually be sued for slander as my blog is just words and I haven't had an vlogs on here or had contact with anyone over the phone about said *whatever you want to call it*

So what does this all mean for a blogger? That like any post you may publish you want to be careful to what you say. Does it mean that if you call some person a asshole and they don't like it will they sue you? No. I think my situation is a very different one. I happen to be trying to take down "the man" and I never told myself it would be easy or fun. But it's whats right.

I think in all honesty my situation is one of those ones you see or read about and think "THANK GOD THAT'S NOT ME" Goes back to theMarissa's Bunny  issue, its like history repeating itself in a way. I remember reading about that and thinking "glad I'm no where near that situation" But those people didn't let down getting the word out, helping the parents.

You've read my blogs about the situation, here is another blog to read in case you haven't but here is  Four Monkey's 4 Me

She has taken the charge, I respect her for what she has put out there. Please show her some love.

While you have distanced yourself from this issue, remember this....who will stand up for the ones who are left behind and continue to come if we fall away? When all is said and done, this will rock the special needs community like never before. I for one will still be standing when the fallout dust has settled.

Special Needs Ryan Gosling

So one of my favorite bloggers started this meme featuring Ryan Gosling and what he would have to say supporting the special needs community. You can read more about it over at Adventures of Extreme Parenthood. The past fews weeks she's made me laugh and cry and giggle repeatedly with her thoughts and now she's opened it up for the rest of us! So now I present you with my Ryan Gosling!
